Herbs & Spices

Herbs and spices play an important role in the food industry. In order to guarantee quality and safety, it is essential to follow the applicable guidelines correctly. Our specialists in the field of herbs and spices within Eurofins are dedicated to share knowledge about the most recent developments and the most innovative analysis techniques. They are involved in the ongoing business, participating in various associations, such as the NZV, NVS and ASTA. 

Eurofins is also a specialist in authenticity analyses in the herbs and spices segment. In addition to the classical methods, there are two recently developed methods that can be applied to herbs and spices: the 'NGS' (Next Generation Sequincing) and the 'NMR profiling'. These two so-called 'non-targeted' analyses are unique, because they can answer various adult questions. As Eurofins, we can increase the level of authenticity of herbs and spices by applying these techniques, among other things. Especially with our NMR profiling technique we can show what is 'hidden' under the tip of the iceberg. In addition, we offer the possibility to determine the origin of raw materials by means of our patented SNIF-NMR technology.

When it comes to adult development, there is a strongly increasing need from the food sector for allergen control. This concerns, for example, 'natural' allergen contamination, such as 'crop rotation', or problems concerning 'carry over' in production lines.  At the moment we offer a wide range of ─ from ELISA and PCR analysis ─ for the detection of allergens, including the 'Big14'.  Eurofins offers all allergen analyses under accreditation. In addition, there is an increasing need for customers to have a full understanding of all allergens in food products. Eurofins is currently investing in an LC-MS/MS method that can measure a wide range of allergens in one run, which will result in cost efficiency for you as a customer.
