Additives and condiments

Requirements for additives and condiments are laid down in the Commodities Decree on additives, flavorings and enzymes in foodstuffs. In addition, microbiological requirements have been laid down in Regulation EC 2073/2005, chemical requirements in Regulation EC 1881/2006 and labelling requirements in Regulation EC 1169/2011. Additives and condiments are still widely used in the food world. For example, for the thickening and binding of foodstuffs. If additives are approved, they are assigned an E-number. The requirements for additives are determined by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
