More grip on Listeria

Header Image

Chicken fillet, ice cream, tartar, frozen corn, eel fillet, broccoli, frozen vegetables from Hungary and Belgium, Swedish mashed potatoes... All products that have been subject to a recall this year due to contamination with the life-threatening Listeria monocytogenes. According to a study by EFSA, the number of listeria has increased in recent years (2008-2015), particularly among women between the ages of 25 and 44 and among people over the age of 75.

EFSA cites, as one of the causes of this, increase the increased consumption of ready-to-eat food. According to the European Food Watchdog, these are mainly processed fish, heat-treated meat, ready-to-eat salads and soft cheeses.

What is the danger of Listeria monocytogenesand why are so many products being withdrawn from the market? This often depends on the characteristics of the product. Read more about this in the artikel from Distrifood, with interviews with our advisory colleagues.
