It is quite possible that you are currently confronted with a recall in which Salmonella Goldcoast plays the leading role. There are now 18 known cases of disease, the cause of which is contaminated pork that may have been delivered to you in the period between 4-6-2018 and 24-10-2018.

Unsafe food

Article 14 of the General Food Law says it all: unsafe food may not be placed on the market.  The same article of this legislation also states that authorities can impose restrictions if there is a suspicion that products do not comply with the legislation. In short, from a legal point of view, you are obliged to take action.

What should I do?

In addition to ensuring the traceability of your products at all stages of production, in case of suspicion of an unsafe foodstuff, you must put in place procedures to retrieve products and inform the authorities (Article 19). In this case, the NVWA, to which you can report all the details via the reporting indicator and the reporting form. In addition, you inform your customers and look for the possible cause.

Does my product meet the legal criteria?

Have you also received a message from your supplier and would you like to know whether your product is safe? Then you need to make an estimate of the food safety risk in your own end products. You can communicate this with the NVWA. via the reporting indicator. Microbiological criteria are included in the EU 2073/2005 and the Commodities Act on the Preparation and Treatment of Food.
